Getting Physical

It’s not just the khajuraho temples that send the blood rushing to your head in Madhya Pradesh; there’s also a whole different lot of excitement in the state, all connected with adventure sports. Mhow, near indore, is one of india’s foremost military installations. It is also the state’s prime hang-gliding destination, with flights organished by the military both for themselves and for civilians. In the charming hill station of pachmarhi, the lanjee giri hill is ideal for rock climbing, especially for amateurs; close to the summit are plenty of routes that make for easy scaling. Madhya Pradesh is also home to the largest wildlife sanctuary in asia, the kanha national park. Visit the land of the jungle book and take the safari in your own four-wheel drive vehicle, or on elephant back; watch out for sightings of the tiger, the tiny mouse deer or the rare hard ground barasingha, found only in kanha.
