Darjeeling was an extremely popular destination during the days of the british raj. Its wonderful climate, clear brisk air and the breathtaking views of the himalays drew the british eager to escape the stifling heat fo kolkatta. The spectacular views and the climate are still the same, attracting hordes of tourists from the metro. If you’re feel to it, you can also deviate a bit and visit plasset where Robert clive fought the decisive that gave England control over India. The road to darjelling via kurseong is through the Himalayan foothills and filled with wonderful views of forests and rivers. But just be careful around the curves. Though scenic and beautiful, never take this road at night as it passes through the rather unsafe states of jharkhand and bihar.
