Occupying pride of place in the state of meghalaya are an abundance of caves. Deep, dark and possibly dangerous, they are a whole new landscape to explore for the adventure seeker; what’s more, some of them are yet to be discovered fully. Full of extraordinarily beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations, these caves-which include the four longest cave system in India-are indeed a whole new adventure. Some of the better known ones include siju, mawsmai, mawsynram and syndai. However, since there are caves in almost every district in the state, caving is an activity you can avail of almost everywhere. For more regular fare, only in comparison of course, go parasailing in the state capital shillong or trek meghalaya’s rugged terrain; an added advantage for trekkers here is that the land is not snowbound.
