Fairs And Festivals

In early December, one would be in time for the hornbill festival at kisama. Kisama is nagaland in one picturesque village below the mountains. Be it the morung, the men’s dormitory that is the pride of every naga village, the war drums cut out of giant logs, or the dances they perform at the end of the harvest, kisama has it all, community wise, from the sema to the ao to the konyak, all 15 of them, showcased in style. Hornbill festival offers nagaland on a platter. There’s rarely a bird they won’t eat and never a meat they won’t smoke over the fireplace, creating a whole new array of cuisine, exotic, ingenious, and just plain challenging. Hornbill festival though would be a little toned down, but it would have its shawls and jackets and spears. It’s worth anybody’s time.
