Heights Of Devotion

Uttaranchal, with its silent, rugged beauty, has had its peaks, rivers and lakes immortalized in religious texts, and in the lore of its mountainfolk. Beauty surrounds you in every season- in the snow cover of winter, the mountain flowers of spring, the lush green of the summer, and the warm colors of the autumn. The kedarnath temple, at the head of the Mandakini River, is one of the holiest places for Hindus. It is the most important of the 200 shrines in the area. Situated at almost 12,000 ft in the uttarkashi region of the Himalayas, it is surrounded by massive peaks. Garhwal queen is the majestic neelkanth stands like a sentinel above the town of badrinath, at 6,597m. It is a challenge for both, pilgrims and mountaineers. The pine forests of binsar are wonderfully silent, and the sunlight that filters through the trees adds to the serenity. The badrinath temple, built by the kings of garhwal, is dedicated to lord Vishnu, who is said to have done penance in the mythical forests that once covered the mountains of uttarkhand.
